About Derek Stainthorpe :-

 

Art has always been in my life, but it's only since a bad accident in 2010, have I thought about the change of lifestyle that art could give me.

A third generation printer, that came to an end last Christmas, I now feel lucky that I'm being given this opportunity to follow my love of painting.

A major influence in my painting is my love of Yorkshire and my love of a good sky.

A sky is an ever changing array of colours and shapes that can define your moods of the day. Look closely and there are a multitude of colours that you never thought of.

To this end, I've always admired Yorkshire Artist Ashley Jackson and have been lucky enough to meet him on a few occasions and also paint with him. He really is a great Yorkshire character.

I have worked in all mediums but most of my paintings at the moment, are Acrylic on canvas or canvas board. I love the ability Acrylic gives me to layer paint quickly with the texture of oils but still able to use it in a watercolour style as well. I love to see brush strokes on a piece of art, it shows the artists soul and daring.
